University of Rostock
The University of Rostock (UROS), founded in 1419, is one of the oldest Universities in Europe. It offers more than 100 fields of study - 34 leading to a bachelor’s and 56 to a master's degree. The number of students at the University is more than 13.000. UROS will be presented in the projects by the Institute of Applied Microelectronics and Computer Engineering (IMD). The expertise of the institute covers all aspects of the design and verification of embedded and cyber-physical systems including system-level design and modelling, wireless sensor networks, and service-oriented architectures for devices. A special focus of the institute is on smart, body-worn sensor systems and smart implants.
Role within SmILE
The Institute of Applied Microelectronics and Computer Engineering will bring its extensive experience in energy-efficient and real-time on-device signal processing of body-worn sensor systems and smart implants to the SmILE project. The focus of our contribution is the implementation of on-implant sensor signal processing algorithms and their optimisation towards real-time execution and energy-efficient processing and algorithm distribution. Finding a trade-off between on-implant processing and wireless streaming of sensor data is key to energy efficiency, long battery charging cycles, and thus usability.
