Università degli Studi di Brescia
The University of Brescia is a young university with strong roots in one of the richest and most innovative areas in Europe. It contributes to the sustainable development of a territory in search of a balance between industrial development, environmental sustainability and quality of life. The University is a "free learning community" which expresses its social responsibility by committing itself to promoting a peaceful and open society through the inclusion and integration of the many diversities within it.
Role within SmILE
The research activity of the unit led by Prof. Mauro Serpelloni focuses on the design, fabrication, and testing of smart medical devices, including prostheses, orthoses, and walking aids. The study involves developing an intelligent orthosis capable of reducing mechanical load, monitoring deformations and movements, and providing data and recommendations to users and healthcare professionals. Walking aids will detect forces and postures in real time, while the integrated platform will correct any errors. Prostheses (knee, hip, shoulder) and orthopedic plates will incorporate innovative sensors fabricated with advanced technologies, offering greater sensitivity and flexibility. Finally, in collaboration with the other partners, solutions will be developed to measure wear and stress on prostheses, integrating sensors directly into the devices.
