BG Klinikum Hamburg – Zentrum für klinische Forschung (zkf)

The BG Klinikum Hamburg is one of nine acute clinics in the BG Kliniken chain of hospitals. With our efficient emergency department and the emergency ambulance and rescue helicopter stationed here, we play a decisive role in the acute care of accident victims and seriously injured patients from northern Germany. We are certified as a supra-regional trauma center and are therefore optimally prepared for major incident management. Our centers for paraplegia, burns and rehabilitation are among the largest departments of their kind in Germany. Further core competencies of our hospital are septic musculoskeletal surgery and neuro-traumatology. For all these areas we provide a concept of integrated rehabilitation, which accompanies patients from the scene of the accident until they are as fully recovered as possible. Our shareholders are the industrial employers' liability insurance associations and nine accident insurance funds.

Zentrum klinische Forschung - zkf
In line with the care mandate of the statutory occupational accident insurance, research focuses towards the benefit of the patients. A team with multiprofessional background conducts interdisciplinary research into the medicine of tomorrow. The Center for Clinical Research (zkf) pools the scientific expertise of the BG Klinikum Hamburg, thereby focusing on musculoskeletal, neurological and rehabilitation research. Next to a large number of clinical research projects, we focus on biomechanic and biomechatronic development and research. Also, we have ongoing research projects in the area of medical robotics and AI in the area of musculoskeletal conditions in treatment and diagnostics. We provide preclinical support in determining safety and performance, e.g. through biomechanical or biomechatronic investigations. In close cooperation with the participating departments, MPDG studies (including early phases), AMG studies (from phase 2b), observational studies and health services research studies are conducted with renowned project partners. We support clinicians, scientists and industry partners from the planning of a study to its implementation, analysis and reporting. The zkf works at the interface between the scientific staff, the administration, the clinic management and - where applicable - the cooperation partners and funding bodies. It advises and supports researchers and, in particular, performs tasks in the area of coordination and organization from the preparation to the completion of research projects.
